Freeriding on the Hasliberg

Freeriding - off-piste skiing

The Hasliberg offers fantastic opportunities for off-piste skiing. But please use your head, your wits and the right equipment! In the following, we will draw your attention to a few important aspects of freeriding. But whether a slope is skiable or not is ultimately always up to the freerider. The mountain railroads are solely responsible for safety on the slopes!

Avalanches

After just 15 minutes, the chance of survival of a completely buried person drops significantly. The most common cause of death is suffocation because the buried person often only has a small breathing cavity. Only half of the completely buried snow sports enthusiasts survive the avalanche accident.

As an observer of an avalanche accident, every winter sports enthusiast can become a lifesaver through correct behavior.

Equipment

The standard emergency equipment for snow sports enthusiasts who go off-piste consists of;

  • Avalanche transceiver (LVS)
  • Avalanche shovel
  • Avalanche probe
  • Additional emergency systems are the airbag and avalung.

Further items are useful in the rucksack:

  • Ascent aids
  • Emergency pharmacy
  • Cell phone or radio
  • Orientation means
  • Sun and cold protection

Checkpoints in the area

  • LVS Checkpoint Mägisalp (in front of the Eagle Express gondola lift)
  • Freeride Checkpoint Alpen Tower (exit mountain station) with bulletin
  • Freeride checkpoint Hääggen (access Glogghüs) with bulletin

Wildlife protection zones

The wildlife rest areas marked on the piste map and on the large information boards in the area and signposted on site may not be entered or hiked in. Thank you for respecting the retreats of our forest dwellers.
